The Chinese Studies Association of Australia [CSAA] is the professional association for China specialists and post-graduate students in Australia (incorporated under the ACT Associations Incorporations Act 1991). Its membership includes most of the specialists in the fields of anthropology, economics, geography, history, language, law, linguistics, political science, sociology, literature and other aspects of Chinese society and culture.
The CSAA convenes a major biennial conference, containing dozens of panels of papers and drawing a large number of participants both from Australia and abroad. The most recent national conference was hosted by La Trobe University in July 2019. The next conference is scheduled to be hosted by Australian Centre on China in the World, ANU in November 2021.
The CSAA liaises with government departments and other appropriate official bodies at Commonwealth and State levels regarding the teaching of the Chinese language and culture in primary and secondary schools and universities and other issues relevant to the field of Chinese Studies, such as research funding. The Association works to ensure that it has a significant input on all important matters relating to Chinese Studies in Australia.
