The Asia Institute is the University of Melbourne’s key centre for studies in Asian languages and cultures. Our teaching programs include Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese languages, as well as Asian and Islamic Studies. The Asia Institute has close links with other Schools and Faculties across the University, and our programs are strongly interdisciplinary in focus.
As Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies (Chinese), you will have the responsibility of undertaking independent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Chinese Studies program and also making a lead contribution to the course design, content and delivery of the new Master of Translation. You will also be responsible for supervising theses in the honours, postgraduate diploma, coursework masters, and research higher degree programs.
In this role you will be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of, and related administration for, the coordination of the Master in Translation and related activities of the Asia Institute. You will also undertake administrative duties primarily relating to your activities at the University of Melbourne.
We are seeking a committed and engaging teacher and researcher in Chinese Studies, in particular the discipline of translation/interpreting, whose versatility will complement and help develop the Asia Institute’s strengths in the Master in Translation and related doctoral (PhD) program at the University of Melbourne.
This full-time position is available on a continuing basis. The appointment will be made at either Associate Professor (level D) or Senior Lecturer (level C) based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
