A Life of Writing in and out and about China
Linda Jaivin
Saturday 19 March 2016, 2pm-3pm
Theatre, Lower Ground 1, National Library of Australia
Linda Jaivin will discuss the perils and seductions of writing about China as a foreign journalist, memoirist, travel writer, librettist, essayist and novelist in the context of her own experiences.
Having studied Asian history at Brown University, Jaivin went on to study Chinese language in Taiwan, before living in both Hong Kong and Beijing. She has published eleven books—most recently Beijing (2014, non-fiction) and The Empress Lover (2014, fiction)—and writes across a range of subjects, including the arts, sexuality, politics and society. She is an associate of the Australian Centre on China in the World, and was one of the editors of the 2014 China Story Yearbook.
