Lancaster University Confucius Institute seeks to appoint a Deputy Director and Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Chinese Studies, to be based in Lancaster University Confucius Institute and the Department of Languages and Cultures. Founded in 2011, Lancaster University Confucius Institute has developed into a significant provider of Chinese language and culture education in the Northwest. Its work has been internally and externally recognised in the forms of Confucius Institute of the Year awarded by Confucius Institute Headquarters in 2019 and Outstanding Contribution Award by Lancaster University in 2020. Building on the success of its established teaching sites in Morecambe, Blackpool, and Carlisle, Lancaster University Confucius Institute aims to further grow its profile regionally and globally. The role is a part of this growth plan, and the institute is expecting a motivated colleague to advance this exciting agenda.

With fluency in Mandarin Chinese, you will have an excellent understanding about and a strong commitment to the work of Confucius Institutes and international Chinese language and culture education. You will have a proven ability to develop, deliver and lead teaching, research and engagement within the context of the Confucius Institute and the Department of Languages and Cultures activities (teaching and research expertise in culture, language and translation will be considered as an advantage). Working closely with the Confucius Institute Director, you will play an important role in developing the growth agenda of Lancaster University Confucius Institute. You are expected to contribute to the development of the Department of Languages and Cultures through the generation of research, teaching and scholarship of international excellence.
