The Opportunity
The School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics seeks to appoint a new Professor in Chinese Studies. One of the largest Schools in the Faculty of Arts, members teach and conduct research across eight European and Asian languages and literatures, literary and cultural studies, creative writing, linguistics and applied linguistics, history and the social sciences, as well as in a range of interdisciplinary areas. The School’s Programs offer studies at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels. A variety of in-country programs and short courses are also available to students. The School has a wide network of international connections, engages in international research projects, and is involved in collaborative teaching with partner universities abroad.
Chinese studies is one of the largest language programs at Monash University. It is taught at the Clayton campus and offshore during Summer. The Chinese studies undergraduate major offers multiple entry points to cater for the diverse proficiency and background needs of students today. Our program aims to equip all students with language and translation skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of and competence in Chinese culture and society.
About YOU!
The Professor of Chinese Studies will provide academic leadership in the activities of the program and the school at all campuses on which Chinese studies is represented, particularly in teaching, research, research training and supervision. This position will augment the quality of teaching and research activities of the program and the school. The Professor of Chinese Studies will further develop the profile of the program, and the school, nationally and internationally by enhancing the standing of research and research training activities, achieving successful research outcomes, and participating prominently in, and initiating, international collaboration in research.
The Professor of Chinese Studies will ensure effective interaction between the program and the school and other parts of the faculty and University, particularly in relation to cooperative research activities. The appointee will identify and act upon opportunities to advance Chinese Studies and obtain national and/or international competitive grants for research activities.
With a flexible attitude and the ability to adapt to any circumstance, you will be able to consult and liaise confidently with senior-level stakeholders. You will have demonstrable experience liaising with government bodies both national and international, ensuring compliance with numerous frameworks and policies. As a strong inclusive leader, you will strive towards excellence at all times and continue to maintain our positive culture and morale.
