Chaired by Professor Luigi Tomba, Director of the China Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, this poetry reading event will be conducted in Chinese with English translation. Widely acknowledged as China’s most powerful voice of the working class, Zheng Xiaoqiong (郑小琼) will read a selction of her poems, which feature her searing critique of social injustice and her intimate narratives of rural migrants’ lives. Wanning Sun FAHA (Professor of Media and Cultural Studies, UTS) will share her ethnography of China’s rural migrant workers and her critique of the cultural politics of social inequality in China. Dr. Jing Han, Chief Subtitler & Head of Subtitling Department at SBS TV Australia, will provide translation at the Q&A session.
